Located on Place de la Comédie, in the heart of the city’s Golden Triangle, this wonderful property has been a hotel legend for over a century. Formerly a private mansion built in 1789 by Victor Louis, this listed building first became a hotel in 1904. Its neo-classical façade with Corinthian colonnades faces the majestic Grand-Théâtre de Bordeaux, completed ten years earlier by the same architect. The hushed world of the InterContinental Bordeaux – Le Grand Hôtel is the work of Jacques Garcia. The famous interior designer (Hôtel Costes, La Mamounia, La Réserve Paris…) has found in this historic private hotel a superb material for one of his secret journeys through me, virtuously blending 18th and 19th century influences with more contemporary touches.
Bronze-legged furniture and wall brackets, Napoleon III studded armchairs upholstered in velvet and trimmings, heavy moire and silk drapes, thick carpets in deep red prints, subdued lighting with pleated shades, red and grey marble… the elegant baroque opulence of the famous decorator blends perfectly with the opulent neo-classical style of the premises.
The same distinguished, cosy spirit pervades the entire establishment, from the public areas to the two restaurants. And it’s only when night falls that the intimate, refined soul of the place is revealed to its fullest, not without a touch of mystery.

Consistent with the overall theme of the hotel, the bedrooms are adorned in the opulence of the ancient régime, featuring mahogany furniture adorned in regal red and gold upholstery. Le Bordeaux restaurant has been an integral part of the city’s history for over 160 years. Indeed, it was in 1850 that the former mansion of Sacriste de Rolly, descendant of Jeanne d’Albret, mother of Henri IV, first became a dining establishment: the elegant Café de Bordeaux.

It has 8 cabins dedicated to sculpting and treatments, a sauna, a hammam, a relaxation pool and a solarium with a view over the whole of Bordeaux. The relaxation pool, decorated by Jacques Garcia, is one of the Spa’s masterpieces. This sumptuous pool is equipped with massage jets and nozzles, as well as a counter-current swimming system. It is topped by a luminous glass roof framed by a deep black ceiling, enameled with twinkling lights like a starry sky. An overhanging tea room overlooks this theatrically decorated water feature, inviting you to rest and relax.
